So there's one thing I learned a loooooooong time ago.....
"Don't expect anything from anyone!"
The more you EXPECT the more likely you are to be let down! If you're not expecting anything, isn't it more of a pleasant surprise?!? My little cousin used to call me all the time stressin out about family drama and how "no one wants him around." He felt that way because he always expected to be included in everything that everyone did! So when they would go do things without him, BAM "JAMES, NO ONE WANTS ME AROUND!!!!!" That's not true... We build expectations in routines without even knowing it. Growing up we alllllll did things together. When an uncle would go out to eat, we allllll went out to eat with him. Expectations are definitely not a good habit but we're human. We're creatures of habit.
To be independent is to not be influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion, conduct, etc.
When you expect things, you're being influenced by what someone else does right? Is that being independent?
Most definitely isn't.
Another thing I've come to realize is that although you set high goals, they won't always be obtainable. Not to say they're impossible because nothing is impossible! I'm also not saying to lower your standards! Keep them HIGH. It's motivation! There are just times when what you reach for is just going to stay out of reach for a little bit longer. Everyone grows and never really stops growing. Maybe its just not the right time at the moment. Maybe someone's just a little bit taller than you and can get to it first! Doesn't mean you can't reach it later.
I used to get frustrated when I would set high yet obtainable goals and still not be able to reach them. I would drive myself insane with frustration. It's not worth the time! Why get mad?
Step back, take a deep breath, evaluate the situation and attack things with a different perspective!
I'm Definitely growing, i can see it and I LOVE it! It feels great! I'm excited to see what's in store for my future... I wish i already knew but what's the fun in that? I like surprises!
